On ABC’s Home Economics, a pair of siblings become the subject of their brother’s upcoming novel unbeknownst to them. Their estranged relationships due to their vastly different financial lifestyles begins to mend as they realize the thing that roots them all is family. Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza, and Sasheer Zamata star in the sitcom returning to ABC in September for season 3.
These type of shows that center around adults often has fun-loving young adult actors who make up the rest of the ensemble. Jordyn Curet is one of those actors and Glambergirlblog got the chance to chat with her about landing the role of Shamiah on Home Economics, working with her cast, the best advice she got working with Scarlett Johansson, and more.
While Curet started modeling at the age of 2, it wasn’t until around 7 years old that she wanted to start acting. “I started watching Disney Channel a lot more and I saw how there were so many child actors that I really wanted to be like. I was like, ‘mom I really want to be on this show and I really want to start acting,'” Curet recalls about getting her start. Making a move to Los Angeles, Curet got her first booking with a Target commercial. The excitement of the industry only grew for Jordyn as she started to book more projects and eventually landed her recurring role on Home Economics.
“The process was actually kind of funny because I didn’t even go to audition at all. I was auditioning on Zoom,” Curet recalls about the initial stages of booking the role of Shamiah. When Covid hit, like the rest of the world, the process was paused, but years later Jordyn met with producers and the creator of Home Economics and weeks later she was booked. “I was actually in tears because after working a bunch of years and not getting a series regular I feel like that was a big accomplishment and that’s what I was working towards.
Working on Netflix’s “Marriage Story” was another major accomplishment for Jordyn and while working on that set she received good advice from a co-star. “Honestly I have worked with such amazing actors and I’ve gotten such great advice, but I feel like the best advice that I’ve gotten was maybe…that’s a hard one cause I’ve gotten so much advice. Honestly, I feel like I worked with an amazing cast in “Marriage Story.” I got to work with Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson and Scarlett was super down-to-Earth and super sweet. She gave me the tiniest bit of advice but it was like if you ever feel like you need to speak up about something or if you feel like you need help you need to tell somebody.”
Outside of acting, Curet gives back with her charity organization Jordyn’s Joy, a non-profit that helps kids in need from low-income households and provides them with items like pillows, toys, and more along with donating arts and crafts items.
