Targaryens are on the rise in the official trailer for HBO Max’s House of the Dragon.
Set 200 years before the events of HBO’s 2011 Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will focus on House Targaryen’s rise to power and sitting on the coveted iron throne while other high power families in the realm vie for that same privilege. If you think you’re getting Game of Thrones 2.0 with this series then think again. While some of the names will sound familiar, House of the Dragon will be following a new format which will include time jumps.
The show begins with Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower (Milly Alcock and Emily Carey) as teens and jumps 10 years to their adult counterparts played by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke respectively. The series will also have several time jumps throughout the 10 episodes. Along with the claim to the iron throne being a major theme, the idea of if a woman can rule is also up in the air. In the trailer, the tensions are high and the deception is real, but I needed more dragons! Show me the dragons!
Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Rhys Ifans, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, Ryan Corr, and Jefferson Hall all star in House of the Dragon premiering Sunday, August 21 on HBO Max.
