If you think about it, it’s kind of crazy that we’re in 2022 and our technology isn’t as advanced as the hundreds of movies projected it to be by this time. The James Bird written and directed “WifeLike” film explores the idea of artificial humans being treated as not only companions but as currency.

Set in the near future, Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays a detective named William who “hunts down criminals who trade artificial humans on the black market” and is also grieving a major loss. He’s paired with an artificial human named Meredith (Elena Kampouris) to serve as a companion and mimic the ways of his late wife. “In the fight to end AI exploitation, an underground resistance attempts to infiltrate him by sabotaging the programming of the artificial human assigned as his companion. She begins to question her reality as memories of a past life begin to surface in a world where nothing is as it seems.”

Doron Bell, Agam Darshi, Sara Sampaio, Alix Villaret, Fletcher Donovan, C. J. Perry, and Stephen Lobo all appear in”Wifelike” coming to theaters, digital and on-demand on August 12.
