Steve Carell Can’t Escape Therapy In FX on Hulu’s Upcoming Thriller Series ‘The Patient’

Many people try to avoid therapy at all costs to deal with their problems, but what happens when therapy literally becomes something you can’t escape from. Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson star in the upcoming FX on Hulu psychological thriller The Patient.

Carell plays psychotherapist Alan Strauss who is mourning his recently deceased wife. Very much in need of therapy himself, Strauss ends up held captive by Sam Fortner (Domhnall Gleeson) who admits to being a serial killer and is seeking counsel in curbing his murdering tendencies. I love a psychological thriller and although I don’t think the official trailer gave too much away, I wish the fact that Domhnall Gleeson’s character was a serial killer was left out and that was revealed in watching the show. That would have been a great twist to get me interested. Nonetheless, I need a show to wrap up my summer watches so I’m in.

Andrew Leeds, David Alan Grier, Linda Emond, Laura Niemi, Alex Rich, and Amy Handelman are slated to appear in The Patient steaming on FX on Hulu on Tuesday, August 30.
