‘Squid Game,’ Zendaya and Quinta Brunson Make History With 2022 Emmy Nominations

The biggest night in television is a few months away and the nominations are in. On Tuesday, JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero announced the nominations for the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards which will take place in the fall.

Succession earned the most nominations with 25 nods followed by Ted Lasso and The White Lotus with 20, Hacks and Only Murders in the Building with 17, and Euphoria with 16. History was also made with this year’s nominations. Squid Game is the first ever non-English language series nominated. Zendaya became the youngest actress ever to receive two lead actress Emmy nominations, the youngest to be nominated as a producer, and the only black woman to be nominated for acting and songwriting in the same year for her work in Euphoria. Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson became the first black woman to be nominated for an Emmy in acting, writing, and outstanding comedy in the same year.

Sanaa Lathan, Chadwick Boseman, Jerrod Carmichael, Colman Domingo, Sydney Sweeney, Janelle James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Tyler James Williams are a few actors that earned their first nominations this year. This year is going to be special and I’m going to be tuned in.
