Beyoncé returned to the Oscars after about a seven-year respite to open the show with a neon yellow grand performance.
Filmed at the Tragniew Park Tennis Courts in Compton, California, Queen Bey opened the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday with a performance of her Oscar-nominated song “Be Alive” from the “King Richard” soundtrack. “King Richard” tells the story of how iconic tennis pros Venus and Serena Williams grew up to be so legendary with the coaching aid from their father Richard Williams.
Inspired by the film, Bey was joined by Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton (who played Venus and Serena in “King Richard”), the Compton Cowboys Junior Equestrians, and Blue Ivy Carter to deliver a number on what resembled a giant tennis court dressed in glam leisurewear in a tennis ball color.
Although Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell went on to win the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) with their “No Time to Die” song for the “No Time to Die” film, it’s Queen Bey so there’s really no way she can lose and the Beyhive was happy to see her back on stage, even if it was remote.
