Before The 8th and Final Episode of Season 2, Here are My Top 8 Euphoria Moments

The second season of HBO’s Euphoria proved to be a monumental one not only for the network but for the series overall. 2.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the new season, which premiered back on January 9th, on HBO and HBO Max marking a record for the streaming service and doubling the views compared to the June 2019 debut. Euphoria also became the most-tweeted TV series of the decade according to Twitter’s data. With a third season secured, there are only more barriers for the show to break and I can’t wait.

Many of the cast pointed out that the second season of Euphoria would be darker and more emotional and the episodes definitely proved to be just that. Rue’s (Zendaya) addiction reached dangerous and heartbreaking levels, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Maddy’s (Alexa Demie) friendship was ruined because of a boy, the blooming relationship between Fezco (Angus Cloud) and Lexi (Maude Apatow) aka Fexi was born, Ashtray (Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton) proved to be THAT boy, and Ethan (Austin Abrams) slayed Lexi’s play.

Season two wraps on Sunday, February 27th, and the promo for episode 8 teases the season will end on a very heightened and emotionally draining note. I’m not sure I’m ready for the tears that will leave my body watching the finale but I’ve been mentally preparing all week. With that being said, before the eighth and final episode of the season airs, I wanted to share eight of my favorite scenes/sequences from the show thus far. There really are countless moments I can think back on that make this show so outstanding to me, but here are a select few for you to check out; in no particular order.

Oklahoma Girls Room Scene – (Season 2: Episode 3) Ruminations: Big and Little Bullys
It’s a rare thing to get all the Euphoria girls in a single scene together. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. As much as the leading ladies intertwine storylines we hardly ever see them all together, but when we do it’s television gold. In the middle of Lexi telling Rue about her upcoming play in the bathroom Cassie enters in the midst of her identity crisis. Later Maddy and Kat (Barbie Ferreira) enter the scene as the girls’ question Oklahoma, Cassie’s new attire, and Rue’s drug use. Plus we got the two iconic lines: “bitch you better be joking”  and “I have never ever been happier.”

Detective Bennett and Howard Figure Out The Case – (Season 1: Episode 7) The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Pee While Depressed
The moment this scene started to play in season one I knew it would become one of my favorite moments from the show and possible TV moment period. Rue and Jules (Hunter Schafer) aren’t on the best of terms and Rue knows it has something to do with Nate (Jacob Elordi). In a fantasy sequence, Rue and Lexi transform into detectives of “Euphoria High” and investigate what could have caused Jules’s drastic personality change. It’s so good.

Ash, Cal, Fez, and Faye Are All Confused – (Season 2: Episode 3) Ruminations: Big and Little Bullys
For those who watched season 1 of Euphoria back in 2019, we already loved Fez and Ashtray, but season 2 made us fall in love with them more and their brotherhood. Specifically how Ash does not play when it comes to protecting his brother! In a very hilarious scene, Cal (Eric Dane) thinks he’s coming to confront Fez about his missing sex tape with Jules but leaves more confused than ever when he unintentionally spills the tea. Faye (Chloe Cherry) is just there bewildered like everyone else. [Watch HERE.]

Rue Relapses – (Season 1: Episode 8) And Salt the Earth Behind You
After Jules leaves Rue on a train station platform she relapses after being clean for some time. That moment made for one of the best, if not THEE best, music moments of the show to date. In a remixed version of Labrinth’s “All for Us,” Zendaya joins the track to remind those of her heavenly voice if you forgot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to this song since it was released in 2019 I love it so much and the scene depiction of it makes it that much better. My sole issue is that this version isn’t available to stream. The marching band towards the end of the track makes it so epic.

Fez Won’t Give Rue Drugs – (Season 1: Episode 3) Made You Look
Some argue that this is the scene that solidified Zendaya’s 2020 Primetime Emmy nomination and ultimate win. Rue wasn’t having the best day on this episode and went to seek comfort in drugs. She went to Fez’s house looking to score, but Fez refused to help her kill herself with narcotics. Begging and pleading at the door, Rue breaks down about how Fez ruined her life by selling her drugs in the first place. After giving up, Rue realizes she does need help and reaches out to Ali (Colman Domingo) who later becomes her sponsor.

Rue Drug Breakdown – (Season 2: Episode 5) Stand Still Like the Hummingbird
I don’t know what came over me or what type of mood I was in watching but I was in absolute tears during the first 15-20 minutes of this episode. As viewers, this was the first time we really, really saw how bad Rue’s drug problem can be. In a manic state, Rue attacks and berates her mom Leslie (Nika King) and sister Gia (Storm Reid) in a performance that has to land Zendaya another Emmy nods. It was heartbreaking yet so captivating to watch.  [Watch HERE.]

Rue and Lab in Church – (Season 2: Episode 4) You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can
Labrinth is the music composer for Euphoria and his music always perfectly embodies what’s happening on screen. In an emotional scene, Rue is high and imagines she’s with her deceased dad Robert (Bruce Wexler) also while in church with Labrinth belting out “I’m Tired” (a song from the season 2 soundtrack). Two things that’s always going to make me cry: a father/daughter relationship and moments in church.

Lexi’s Play – (Season 2: Episode 7) The Theater and It’s Double
It seems like the entire season was leading up to Lexi’s play and it did not disappoint. Intermingled with flashbacks and scenes from the play, episode 7 just might be the best of the season. On the downside we have Fez and Ash being set up for a not-so-pleasant outcome, but Ethan held the play DOWN and performed an unforgettable rendition of “Holding out for a Hero.”

Euphoria airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO and HBO Max.
