*Trigger warning. This post contains talk of suicide.
In 2015 Michelle Carter became famous for all the wrong reasons.
Carter, 17 at the time, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for using text messages to encourage her 18-year-old boyfriend Conrad Roy III to commit suicide in 2014. The case was certainly unprecedented as it was the first time something like that became so public and was considered a crime.
Inspired by the actual case, Hulu will bring the story to a new audience with The Girl From Plainville starring Elle Fanning as Michelle Carter, who absolutely nails the appearance. Kudos to whoever decided to cast her. Colton Ryan will play Conrad Roy III with Cara Buono and Chloë Sevigny, playing key roles in the show as well. The teaser doesn’t show too much, but enough to get me interested.
I remember hearing about this story but have no clue about any of the details so color me intrigued to become familiar with the whole story. I discovered there’s a documentary called I Love You, Now Die on HBO diving deep into the trial that I’ve added to my watch list for research purposes.
The Girl From Plainville streams only on Hulu Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
