Imagine being left home alone by accident as a child during the holidays and the next year it basically happens again. How weren’t the “Home Alone” parents locked up for child endangerment because of their shenanigans is beyond me? I guess these things can only happen in the movies.
“Home Alone” proved to be such a success in 1990 that a sequel was released two years later in 1992 putting a different spin on Kevin McCallister being abandoned by his family. “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” plot takes place a year later and the McCallister family is heading somewhere warm for Christmas. Kevin wants to go somewhere that will have snow and will have Christmas trees like New York for the holidays instead. I get it Kevin. There’s nothing like New York during the holidays. Kevin makes it to the airport with his family this time but in the mad dash they are making to get to their flight’s gate, Kevin gets lost and runs behind a man who looks like his dad and ends up on a flight to New York City. Kev in a manifestation king!
When Kevin is discovered missing his family spends yet another holiday trying to track him down, meanwhile, the bandits (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) from the first film have escaped from prison, run into Kevin, and are hell-bent on revenge. There are other subplots in the film, but “Home Alone 2” ends up on my Christmas watch list because as far as sequels go it’s just as funny as the first film and the New York element makes the movie oh so magical. Where to watch: Disney+
Tell me which do you prefer? “Home Alone” or “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York?” Or are both of these hits on your Christmas watch list? Share your thoughts in the comments.
