Peloton Responds To ‘And Just Like That’ Major Character Death With Hilarious Ad

Spoilers ahead for HBO Max Original Series And Just Like That…

It’s been 11 years since fans of HBO’s Sex and the City have seen Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte (Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis) on their screens. (11 because I’m counting the second SATC movie). The very anticipated “next chapter” series And Just Like That… premiered on Thursday, December 9 with two 40 minute plus episodes. It was good to see how the characters have developed but all of that was overshadowed when in the final moments of episode one in voiceover Carrie says “And just like that…Big died.”

The shocking death, in the first episode no less, left fans very distraught myself included. Now for some context. After a decade of back and forth on the SATC series, Big (Chris Noth) and Carrie tied the knot in the first SATC movie. There was a small hiccup with Aidan (Carrie’s ex) in the second movie, but it was presumed the pair would live happily ever after in New York. NOT. Long story short, Carrie and Big were supposed to be heading out of town, but Charlotte insisted Carrie come to her daughter Lily’s piano recital. While Carrie was away at the event, Big stayed home and got in a workout on a Peloton bike with his instructor Allegra (real-life fitness and Peloton instructor Jess King). After a vigorous workout, Big preps to take a shower, drops his phone, has a heart attack, and waits in peril until his wife comes home (to see her one last time 🙁 ) and dies in her arms.

People blamed Peloton, but the exercise equipment company was not having any parts of that and quickly produced a PSA if you will featuring Noth and King. “You can write off a character but not the value of cardio. Let’s get it, Peloton!” the caption for the promo read with the title “He’s Alive.” Ryan Reynolds lends a voiceover explaining the ways a Peloton bike is indeed good for you ending the clip ensuring people Chris Noth is alive. Hilariously perfect!
