How could “Home Alone” not be on a watch list for Christmas?

Macaulay Culkin shot to mega fame after playing the delightfully troublesome Kevin McCallister in the 1990 film. As the McCallister family is prepping for a major family vacation to Paris for Christmas, Kevin feels more out of place than usual. After being ridiculed for half the night before the big trip, Kevin wishes he would wake up and all his family would disappear. He gets that wish when his family rushes off to the airport in the morning barely making their flight to Paris. Midway in the sky, Kate (Catherine O’Hara) realizes Kevin has been left home alone and spends the next two days trying desperately to get home to her son.

Meanwhile Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), a pair of bandits, have been casing the neighborhood for homes to burglarize. The McCallister house is a prime candidate until Kevin rigs his entire home with booby traps to keep the intruders out. There’s so much humor in this movie you don’t realize as a child and that’s what makes it so great to watch now. Kevin is absolutely hilarious throughout and I can see why Macaulay Culkin became such a huge child star following this movie.

The score is beautiful. The soundtrack is classic Christmas tracks and it’s so ’90’s. I adore this movie. Where to watch: Disney+
