For decades the concept of the onlooker peering into someone else’s life only to stumble upon a crime has been depicted on the silver screen many times. From “Rear Window” in 1954 spanning the years all the way to 2021 with films like “One Hour Photo,” “Disturbia,” “The Girl on the Train,” “The Woman in the Window,” and “The Voyeurs,” it’s wild to think there hasn’t been a parody project about this genre. At least not to my knowledge, but thanks to Netflix it is now.
Kristen Bell stars in the 8 episode mini-series The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. The title alone informs you this will be a dark comedy and I adore Kristen Bell so I’m completely on board with this show. Bell plays Anna, a woman tired of the same ole regular routine as she sits in her home sipping wine gazing out the window. When the handsome Neil (Tom Riley) moves across the street with his daughter life begins to look up for Anna until she witnesses a brutal murder. Or is it the gallons of wine she downs playing with her mental state? This show looks like it will play on all the troupes the voyeur films touch on but with the “Scary Movie” franchise treatment. Cant’ wait!
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window premieres on Netflix Friday, January 28, 2022.
