GGB’s 25 Days of Christmas Watch List: A Parks and Recreation Christmas

The height of the pandemic in 2020 allowed me to get into a bunch of television shows and films I had never gotten around to watching. I find myself becoming interested in shows long after, or slightly after, they had a series wrap which is good for me because I devour a good binge-watching session. Parks and Recreation is one of those shows that I binged last year and became totally obsessed with.

Amy Poehler stars as Leslie Knope, Deputy Director of the Parks and Recreation Department of the fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana. Leslie has the ambition of working her way up the government ladder all the way to the White House but in the meantime, she goes above and beyond to make sure Pawnee is the greatest city in the world. The beloved cast is also made up of Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Jim O’Heir, Retta, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, and many familiar faces as series regulars and special guest stars.

Like many sitcoms, there are a few episodes that center around the holidays. The Halloween episodes of Parks and Rec are some of the funniest of the series, but for the sake of GGB’s 25 Days of Christmas Watch List, I’ll be focusing on the Christmas-themed ones for you to get into.

“Christmas Scandal” (Season 2, Episode 12)
Leslie’s holiday is shaken up when she gets falsely accused of having a sexual affair with the corrupt Councilman Dexhart. While she handles that the rest of the Parks department takes over her daily duties which turns out to be much more than the team anticipated. It ends with a Christmas tree lighting and April’s crush on Andy in overdrive.

“Citizen Knope” (Season 4, Episode 10)
The lifelong dream of Leslie to become a City Councilwoman is almost permanently ruined when her campaign team quits after learning the news of how her work suspension is tanking her polling position. (She was suspended for going public with a relationship that was against policy) While Leslie spirals into sadness, the Parks department and Ann work together to give Leslie the perfect Christmas gift with a special surprise. It’s what the holidays are all about.

“Ron and Diane” (Season 5, Episode 9)
Each year Tom, April, Andy, and Donna collect $1 for every time they laugh at something stupid Jerry does and take themselves out for a fancy dinner with the money saved. This year’s “Jerry Dinner” brought in $518. Unbeknownst to them, Jerry has a lavish Christmas party every year that they stumble upon and hilarity ensues. Elsewhere, Ron takes his new girlfriend Diane to a woodworking award ceremony where he’s up for a major award. Leslie invites herself and Ron’s ex-wife Tammy Two crashes. If you know the history of Ron and Tammy Two then you know a comedic mess is about to occur. Where to watch: Peacock
