GGB’s 25 Days of Christmas Watch List: I’m Dreaming of a Wayne Christmas

A Different World is one of my favorite shows of all time. The storylines and character development are something that hasn’t been matched for me in any TV show. It was a show that had something to say naturally and it didn’t seem like a forced message down viewers’ throats. I can watch it today and still feel some type of way about the episodes no matter how many times I’ve watched them. One episode, in particular, I like to watch during the holidays and that’s why it’s on GGB’s 25 Days of Christmas Watch List.

In season 4, episode 11 (“I’m Dreaming of a Wayne Christmas”), Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison) are finally a couple and Dwayne is bringing Whit home to Brooklyn for Christmas to share their first holiday together. The first girl he brought home in fact and you know that’s a big deal. Here’s the catch, Adele (Patti LaBelle), Dwayne’s mom, isn’t too keen on her son’s relationship with Whitley so she does everything she can to impress his mom.

A bunch of high jinks ensues before Whitley and Adele finally come to common ground. The ending always brings a tear to my eye. The holidays and family will always make me choke up. Where to watch: HBO Max
