Glambergirlblog’s 25 Days of Christmas Watch List is bringing you some comedy for your holiday viewing today. For years, the sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live has been delivering hilarious sketches themed around Christmas. There are countless ones that come to mind when thinking about SNL, but I wanted to include my favorites in this post that make me laugh every time I watch or sing along.
“Santa Baby”
SNL host Ryan Gosling and SNL cast member Vanessa Bayer play Doug and Gina, a couple new to the neighborhood who get invited to a holiday party. When a child asks about Santa’s arrival at the party, Doug and Gina go into overdrive with excitement at the possibility of meeting Santa up close and personal. Yes, these adults still believe in Santa. Things take a dark and hilarious turn from there. [Season 41, 2015]
“Santa’s My Boyfriend”
Three of SNL’s iconic female comedians Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Kristin Wiig deliver one of the best original Christmas songs. While trimming a tree the ladies realize they’ve been sharing a boyfriend, Santa Claus. They break out into song about what makes their guy oh so special. [Season 32, 2006]
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”
SNL put a comedic spin on the classic “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” song. In the tune, a child witnesses their mom kissing Santa Claus under the mistletoe not knowing it is indeed their dad dressed up as the holly jolly figure. In SNL’s version cast member Cecily Strong sees her mom (played by host of the week Scarlett Johansson) kissing Santa Claus (cast member Beck Bennett). She also discovers way more about her parents than she intended to. [Season 45, 2019]
“Now That’s What I Call Christmas”
Oh, how I wish this was real. The popular “Now That’s What I Call” albums are a complication of hit records combined and SNL put a holiday spin on it. On this album SNL cast members do their best impressions of Lorde, DMX, Michael Bublé, Alan Rickman, Pitbull, Shakira, Harry Styles, and more in a very memorable sketch. [Season 39, 2013]
“The Sparkle Players Christmas Show”
Not going to lie. This sketch is probably one of my fave SNL skits period. It’s so ridiculous and that’s why it’s so funny. The North East Middle School Sparkle Players show choir worked very hard on their Christmas show Jingle-Jangle Jam and if the students gave it a chance they would realize how much it slays. Seenta Claus get down! [Season 35, 2009]
“SNL Digital Short: Dick in a Box”
The Lonely Island (comedy trio made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) use to run SNL with their digital shorts. All of the songs they produced for SNL are bops, but “Dick in a Box” sung by Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg is not only a holiday classic, but it gives you a gift idea. [Season 32, 2006] Watch HERE.
