“This is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down,” are the words heard from the Fresh Prince himself Will Smith in the first teaser for Peacock’s upcoming series Bel-Air.
Jabari Banks, also from West Philadelphia just like Smith, steps into the role of Will for the streaming service one-hour drama that will be a modern-day take on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The series plans to “dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases” the ’90’s show centered around when Will moved to Bel-Air with his aunt and uncle after he got into a bit of trouble.
In the teaser, Banks dives into a pool of water and swims towards an iconic figure from the original show. “I looked at my kingdom. I was finally there. To sit on my throne,” can be heard from Smith as Banks stares into the camera with his crown ajar.
Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, and Akira Akbar will play Phillip, Vivian, Carlton, Hilary, and Ashley Banks. Jimmy Akingbola and Jordan L. Jones will play Geoffrey and Jazz. All important characters in the original.
It’s hard to really get a grasp of what this show is going to give? I’m going to need a full trailer with the actors to truly know if I’ll be on board, but I want to know what you think. Bel-Air is expected on Peacock in 2022.
