One thing about Chucky? He’s going to make me laugh more than being terrified at what he’s doing. Since 1988 Brad Dourif has brought Chucky to life (Aside from the 2019 “Child’s Play) as the foul mouth serial killer trapped in a Good Guy doll.
Don Mancini, the creator of the franchise, is bringing Chucky to a new generation with his USA & SYFY TV series, Chucky. The show follows Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) and how he came in possession of the doll making him and Chucky “friends to the end” as a new killing spree in Hackensack erupts.
I watched the premiere episode a few times because the first time I fell asleep. Not because I was bored but because I was tired, but when I watched again I actually only missed about 10 minutes. Chucky is the same as he’s always been and that’s good. With complete new faces to the franchise, it’s good to have the familiarity of Chucky. OG’s are supposed to show back up at some point, but I like how the show didn’t throw that in our face right in the first episode. There were hints of them coming, but I liked how the focus, for now, is establishing these new characters.
If you are squeamish there wasn’t much blood and gore in the first episode, but if you are a Chucky fan then you know it’s coming. I think this premiere was a strong open to the potential this series can have. I laughed and felt a bit uneasy – elements any good horror project should have! I’m invested.
Watch the premiere episode of Chucky in the clip below and be sure to catch new episodes on Tuesdays at 10pm on USA & SYFY. Continue watching after the episode to get an inside look at the premiere with creator Don Mancini and the cast. Is this a hit or not? Share your thoughts in the comments.
