James Wan’s writer credits span the likes of “Saw,” “Dead Silence,” “Insidious: Chapter 2,” “The Conjuring 2,” and most recently “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” but his latest upcoming project is said to bring fans of Wan back to his origins.
“Malignant” stars Annabelle Wallis as Madison who had a troubling upbringing so deeply rooted that it has spilled over into her adult life. She’s haunted by an “imaginary friend” named Gabriel along with paralyzing visions of horrifying murders, but what is true reality?
“I wanted to do something that was a bit different but yet hawk back to my roots,” director Wan said adding, “You got to take chances. If you don’t you end up making the same ole thing again, and again, and again. I think audiences are starved for something that’s new and different.”
Maddie Hasson and George Young also star in the film.
“Malignant” comes to theaters and HBO Max on September 10. The film will stream on the Ad-Free plan of HBO Max in the US for 31 days from its theatrical release.
