Since the release of his Best Original Screenplay Oscar-winning 2017 film “Get Out” and the 2019 “Us,” Jordan Peele has made a name for himself in the horror genre that leaves movie lovers anxiously waiting to see what he’s going to do next. This time, we’ll have to wait a year to the day.

On Thursday, Peele shared a movie poster that revealed the title and release date of his next project. “Nope” stars Steven Yeun, Daniel Kaluuya, and Keke Palmer also featuring Brandon Perea and Barbie Ferreira. The biggest hype surrounding Peele’s films is that the plot remains under wraps almost to the release date. Even still, the plot remains a mystery and the think pieces come by the dozen.

The poster in itself is pretty cryptic, but it still led the film to trend for most of the day trying to decipher the meaning and get any clues to the plot. A dark sky looms over a lit-up city with a cloud lurking overheard with flags attached to it like a kite. The city also looks like it’s in a sinkhole. What could all this possibly mean? And what does the title have to do with the theme of the movie? We’ll find out next year.

“Nope” comes to theaters July 22, 2022.
