Nickelodeon had many of our childhoods on lock growing up. The Rugrats is a prime example of one of those animated shows that were not to be missed. I still watch the reruns on Nick Rewind and find myself still relating to the babies as well as the adults now that I’m older. Since the generations that grew up watching the Rugrats are way past the targeted audience, Paramount+ is bringing back the series with some major and minor adjustments.
Gone are the grainy and abstract versions of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie, and Angelica. The new Rugrats have gotten a CG animation remodel to keep up with today’s style of animated shows, but while some things are changing with the show the most important parts are remaining the same. The OG voice actors are back!
Cree Summer (Susie Carmichael), EG Daily (Tommy Pickles), Cheryl Chase (Angelica Pickles), Nancy Cartwright, (Chuckie Finster), and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil DeVille) sat down with Tommy Dewey, the new voice of Stu Pickles, to unpack what it was like working on the show in the 90’s, voicing their characters, and we get to see the actors during a table read (Watch the clip the actors read for below). I smiled the whole time watching this. So nostalgic.
The reimagined Rugrats streams on Paramount+ on May 27th.
Watch the OG Rugrats cast sit down and talk about stepping back into their iconic baby characters in the clip below. Will you be watching the new Rugrats with your little ones or just for yourself? Share your thoughts in the comments.
