It’s been 17 years since the first “Saw” film released and 8 films later the original Leigh Whannell story is getting a revamp by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger with “Spiral: From the Book of Saw.” The film was first set to premiere in theaters last May and was pushed due to covid, but now fans of the franchise can look forward to a mid May release for this year.

Starring Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols, “Spiral: From the Book of Saw” sort of picks up where Jigsaw aka John Kramer left off. There’s a string of gruesome murders that are taking over the city reminiscent of Jigsaw’s MO and Detectives Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and William Schenk (Max Minghella) must investigate. The games are beginning again.

From the trailer “Spiral” doesn’t seem nearly as gory as its previous film counterparts. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. That’s kind of “Saw’s” staple. The first thing that comes to my mind is the god awful grisly traps when I think about the “Saw” movies. Since I’ve been keeping up with this franchise since the start and seen every film it’s only right I see this one. Not sure about heading to the theaters to see it though.

“Spiral: From the Book of Saw” is coming to theaters May 14, 2021.
