Get your mind ready for a plethora of think pieces and hate tweets because Amazon Prime is set to release a thriller series that places a black family in the midst of white suburbia during the 1950’s and of course everything turns out fine…said no one ever.

Prime’s Them is a 10-episode drama-thriller created by Little Marvin, who also serves as Executive Producer along with Lena Waithe. The story follows a Black husband and wife named Henry and Lucky Emory (Ashley Thomas and Deborah Ayorinde) who move from North Carolina to their dream home in Los Angeles with their daughters Ruby and Gracie (Shahadi Wright Joseph and Melody Hurd). Only problem is the move is to an all-white suburban neighborhood during the “The Great Migration” period in history and the neighbors have no issue showing how much they disapprove of their presence. On top of mysterious circumstances happening inside the home, the trailer is giving more sinister “The Help” meets Lovecraft Country.

Many have already compared the show to Jordan Peele’s work (“Us” and “Get Out”) and have pointed out how a dark-skin Black family are always the center of trauma in regards to racism. We’ll see how this pans out because from the trailer I’m intrigued enough to give this series a chance.

Them also stars Ryan Kwanten, Christopher Heyerdahl, Liam McIntyre, and Alison Pill and streams on Amazon Prime starting Friday, April 9.

Watch the trailer for Them in the clip below. How do you think you’ll like this series? Or is it problematic? Share your thoughts in the comments.
