Have you ever wanted to know why Disney super villain Cruella de Vil began an obsession for Dalmatians and how she got to be so evil? You haven’t? Well too bad because Disney is giving you one anyway.
The live-action “Cruella” has been in the works for quite some time. Back in 2019 a photo of Emma Stone as the title character was revealed giving a taste of what the audience could expect. Today the first trailer for the upcoming film dropped showcasing the upbringing of Cruella during the 1970s.
SNEAK PEAK OF EMMA STONE AS CRUELLA
In 1970s London, Estella, later assuming the alias Cruella de Vil, was a small time swindler during the punk rock revolution aspiring to get her fashion designs recognition. When her designs get the attention of notable fashion legend Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson), Estella’s big break could finally happen, but a series of events turn Estella into the Cruella she’s known for.
Watching the trailer I felt a bit remiss. I associate Cruella with Dalmatians and when I saw all but a handful in the trailer I was like booooo, but then I thought this movie isn’t about the adorable Dalmatians it’s about Cruella and how she got to the point where she wanted Dalmatians for fur. The trailer reads like a DC Comic film. I’ve seen a lot of people say that online and they’re correct. This isn’t going to be the colorful Disney tale and I’m a bit shocked by this direction the film is taking. Right now the film is slated for a May 2021 release.
