Do you want to be famous?

We live in world today where many people are trying to go viral to gain fame and aspire to become influencers as a way to make income. In an attempt to expose the problematic mind set that comes from those notions, HBO filmed a documentary to bring influencer culture in the forefront and reveal what’s really happening behind the scenes. If you didn’t already know it’s all pretty much a facade.

Written and directed by Nick Bilton, “Fake Famous” is “an unreal social experiment” that shows exactly what goes into gaining internet fame and how to maintain a level of popularity as an influencer. The documentary set out to take a handful of regular people and make them fake famous to see what would happen. “There’s so much that goes into portraying something that’s not really there. It’s a complete circus,” says one of the instant made influencers from the trailer. This is going to be quite interesting to watch. Can’t wait.

“Fake Famous” streams exclusively on HBO Max February 2 at 9pm.
