The pandemic has moved many intended theatrical release films to streaming services and the LGBQT+ themed “Happiest Season” is one of them; and I’m not mad about it since this is one film that was on my 2020 watch list.
Co-written by Clea DuVall and Mary Holland and directed by DuVall, “Happiest Season” stars Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis as Abby and Harper – a couple trying to get through the holiday season with a big secret. Abby is excited to go home with Harper for Christmas and meet her family intending to propose during the trip, but Harper’s family doesn’t know she’s gay so she’s forced to hide her relationship and who she truly is. The rom com is said to capture “the range of emotions tied to wanting your family’s acceptance, being true to yourself, and trying not to ruin Christmas.” How will everything turn out? You can see later this month.
Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, and Dan Levy also make up the “Happiest Season” cast, coming to Hulu November 25th.
