Welcome to the Blumhouse!

Amazon teamed up Blumhouse productions to stream a series of films that have been labeled as “four unsettling films under one roof.” On October 6 the first two films premiered, “The Lie” and “Black Box” – read reviews HERE.To wrap up the Welcome to the Blumhouse series, “Nocturne” and “Evil Eye” were released this week. While these two weren’t prime Spooky Season material, they are two movies you can watch if you want to scroll social media during or are cooking. Below I’ll give you my brief reviews and try to be as spoiler free as possible.

“Nocturne”
Written and directed by Zu Quirke, “Nocturne” stars Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney as Juliet, a quiet yet ambitious student at a prestigious performing arts school. She’s been in the shadow of her much more talented twin sister Vivian (Madison Iseman), but all that changes when she finds a book that can unlock all that she ever wanted.

This film was pretty predictable because I’ve seen a bunch of movies already about devil diaries and what happens when you basically bargain your soul for something you want immediately. So there was no big shock on how this story would end. Although the “twin” leads looked nothing alike, Sydney Sweeney and Madison Iseman played good opposite one another. They could have just made them rival siblings. There was no benefit from them being twins.

There were no stand out performances and I found myself scrolling my phone a good portion of the movie and looking up to realize I didn’t miss much. Very slow moving plot with little pay off at the end.

I give “Nocturne” two Glambergirlblog kisses 💋💋.

“Evil Eye”
Based on the award-winning, best-selling Audible Original production from Madhuri Shekar, “Evil Eye”stars Sarita Choudhury and Sunita Mani as mother Usha and daughter Pallavi who have a deadly connection threatening to destroy their relationship. Usha is very pressed for her daughter Pallavi to meet someone and get married. She’s constantly asking her to settle down and even going as far as to setting her daughter up on dates. Usha is back home in India dealing with her own demons that are trickling down to her daughter in New Orleans.

While out to meet a guy her mom set her up with Pallavi meets Sandeep (Omar Maskati), a very handsome seemingly nice guy. Pallavi and Sandeep quickly fall in love with Sandeep showing her with gifts and intentions to marry her, but Usha has a bad feeling about this. She feels Sandeep is the reincarnated spirit of an ex lover who she was in an abusive relationship with.

“Evil Eye” was another predictable film, but what made this one really interesting was the performances between the leading ladies. And Sandeep was easy on the eyes. Even knowing the outcome of this film watching it play out made you forget what you already knew because it was well acted and paced perfectly. Worth a watch.

I give “Evil Eye” three Glambergirlblog kisses 💋💋💋.

If I had to rank the Welcome to the Blumhouse films in order from good to not the best I’d say: “Evil Eye,” “Black Box,” “The Lie,” then “Nocturne.”
