On September 10, 1990 a little television program called The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air about a kid from West Philly who moved to Bel-Air to live with his wealthy aunt, uncle, and cousins debuted and ran for 6 seasons from 1990-1996.
Will Smith starred as the lead character with James Avery as Uncle Phil (R.I.P), Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, and Karyn Parsons as his children Carlton, Ashley, and Hilary Banks, Joseph Marcell as Geoffrey the butler, Janet Hubert as the original Aunt Vivian later replaced by Daphne Reid in season 4 for the duration of the series.
In celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary a reunion special was shot and will air on HBO Max some time in November (all seasons are now available on the streaming service). To tease the reunion Smith posted a photo on Instagram with the cast captioned, “Today is exactly 30 YEARS since The @FreshPrince of Bel-Air debuted! So we’re doin’ something for y’all… a for real Banks Family Reunion is comin’ soon to @HBOmax! RIP James. #FreshPrince30th.”
The biggest surprise came with the second photo Smith posted sitting smiling with estranged cast member Janet Hubert. The two had a feud that led to Hubert leaving the series. It seems begones are begones and I’m hoping the two address their issues from the past during the sit down. I wonder what other surprises this reunion will have?
