Spooky season is upon us and it’s one of my favorite times of the year. Netflix is good for some original spooky season content and one of those programs is the anthology series The Haunting.
In 2018, The Haunting of Hill House swept the streaming service as an untapped horror gem. Based on the work of the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson, the Netflix series took place in two timelines and explored how a family deals with the trauma of death, grieving, and moving on. It truly was a beautiful adaptation of The Haunting story; which has been done many times in pop culture. After the success of the first season, season two was green lit which would explore a new horror tale. Think American Horror Story, but actually scary and with some depth.
February 2019 it was revealed The Haunting of Bly Manor would be the next installation in The Haunting series with Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Victoria Pedretti from the first season returning as key cast members. The new season would center around Henry James 1898 horror novella “The Turn of the Screw” about a governess taking care of two children in London as they encounter ghosts; to put it simply.
Photos for the season have been revealed with not too much else detail about the plot, but with the tease of “a new story,” “a new family,” and that the season will be coming in the fall. Since the photos for The Haunting of Bly Manor have been released an official trailer can’t be far behind. That’s what’s really going to get me excited about the upcoming season, so stay tuned for that.
