I’m not even going to begin to pretend I know all the details about comic book based films. It took quarantine for me to even give Marvel movies a chance and while I’m obsessed with those now, my vague interest in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” is solely based on two words: Robert Pattinson.
Over the weekend during DC FanDome (a virtual conference celebrating all things DC Comics created to make up for the loss of San Diego Comic Con 2020 due to covid-19) the first look at “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson was previewed. The Matt Reeves directed and written project was in the midst of production when covid-19 shut down the entertainment industry. With reported of about 30% of completion at the time of halting production, fans were impressed by the amount of footage that was featured in the teaser.
The plot of “The Batman” is being kept underwraps, but fans at least know who will be playing key characters from the comic. As stated above, Pattinson is stepping back into the major studio world playing the key role of Batman. Zoë Kravitz is Catwoman, Colin Farrell is The Penguin, and Paul Dano is The Riddler. I don’t know too much about the Batman world, but I at least know who those characters are. The trailer looks good too.
With the pandemic the release of “The Batman” has been pushed back from the original slated theartical premiere, so right now October 1, 2021 is the expected release. Here’s to hoping.
