They would rather be dry, but at least they’re alive. The new single “Rain On Me” from Lady Gaga‘s Chromatica album featuring the one and only, my girl Ariana Grande premiered on Friday, May 22. It’s no secret that I love me some Ariana and unlike other fandoms I can acknowledge when I’m not feeling something my fav is doing.
“Rain On Me” is the second single released from Gaga’s anticipated upcoming album, which was once delayed until the end of the year but now will be dropping May 29. The song is described as “a dramatic disco-house duet” by Apple Music and that really sums it up. Guess what? I hate it. It’s “Just Dance” splashed with “Break Free” and those are some of my least favorite songs from both artists.
I try to give songs the benefit of the doubt until I see how it pairs with a visual. “Rain On Me” dropped a music video the same day the song premiered and while the girls looked stunning I still am not feeling the song. The message seems simple enough. The good ole “sticks and stone may break my bones, but words can never hurt me,” well in this case knives and screws. This is clearly not a song for my tastes, but I feel like if you get Ariana on a track USE HER. She’s the princess of layers on layers with vocals (I’m looking at you “God is a Woman”) and this song did not highlight the best aspects of her voice. Maybe that was the point?
Clearly some people love it because it’s currently the #1 trending video on YouTube, #1 on iTunes music charts, and was a top topic on Twitter for a good part of the day. I appreciate both of these girls as artists, but this song is a no for me. I’m curious to know what you think.
