Editor’s Note: How To Maintain Your Peace During This Disheartening Pandemic

God has a funny way of getting us to take a break. The world was over worked, over stimulated, and in need of a recalibration. Unfortunately, COVID-19, Coronavirus disease, is that remedy. For some, loved ones are dying from the virus and that’s a reality that is affecting the masses at an alarming rate. For many, self quarantining and social distancing is the safe option to help prevent the spreading of Coronavirus.

I’ve always been a homebody and rarely went out in the first place, so staying inside and keeping myself away from crowds and occupied hasn’t been a struggle for me, but those who are going through it we’re all in this together. Many celebs are upping their Instagram live feeds keeping us entertained: i.e. John Legend performed a concert for like an hour yesterday, Debbie Allen hosted a dance class, Noah Centineo goes on live every night updating Angelenos about what’s happening in the city, Amy Adams is reading children’s books, and the list goes on.

Others have been suggesting things to keep people occupied like reading more, meditation, taking a walk (we can still go outside), joining Netflix Party with friends, spring cleaning, playing games, etc. to keep yourself busy while we figure out the extend this virus can cause.

It’s scary and to be honest I’m still in disbelief that this is what life is like in March 2020. I’m not letting anxiety get the best of me though so I’m journaling more. Resting. I feel like I’ve been getting the best sleep of my life lately. Praying to ease my mind and soul. Doing things that make me happy: watching my favorite shows or movies, dancing alone in my room to favorite tracks, playing with my cat, and checking in with my loved ones via text, FT, or phone.

So for all of you reading this. Protect yourselves and those around you by practicing healthy habits. Like we learned as kids: cover your cough and sneezes. Wash your hands “you derty pigs.” Don’t be up on people’s backs when waiting in lines. Take the news with a grain of salt and make sure you are obtaining reputable information before spreading what you hear or read.  And please oh please stop panic buying. Use this time to realign yourself so when things go back to semi normal you’ll emerge a more leveled out person. Take care and be safe!
