The biggest night in Hollywood when it comes to movies has announced its 2020 nominations and as always there is celebration along with confusion with the talent up for awards this year.
Early Monday morning, John Cho and Issa Rae served as the announcers for the two-part live presentation of the nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards aka the Oscars which will air on Sunday, February 9 live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Each year a controversy surrounds the list of nominations. At one point #OscarsSoWhite became a thing because no, or very little, people of color were even recognized by the Academy and now the noticeable absence of women directors or leading POC women being nominated is at the forefront.
Adam Sandler (“Uncut Gems”), Lupita Nyong’o (“Us”), Jennifer Lopez (“Hustlers”), Greta Gerwig (“Little Woman” director), Beyonce (Original Song “Spirit” from “The Lion King”), and Taron Egerton (“Rocketman”) were some of the snubs that got movie lovers upset the most.
On the flipside, “Joker”, “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” “1917,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “The Irishman,” and “Marriage Story” earned multiple nominations in categories that spanned acting, directing, and editing. The show is coming in less than a month, so we’ll see very soon who will be taking home the top honor.
