It’s hard to deny that 2019 belonged to Ariana Grande. The 26 year old earned her first Grammy for her Sweetener album, went on an international tour, released another album in less than a year from Sweetener, executive produced a movie soundtrack (“Charlie’s Angels”), was deemed one of the top streamed artists of the decade, earned five Grammys noms for the 2020 show, and I could go on, but this post is about a particular first for her.
Following the wrap of her 100th and final Sweetener World Tour date in California on Sunday, December 22, Grande released her first live album, titled “k bye for now (swt live),” featuring 32 tracks. At the start of the month Grande teased the project showing Instagram story videos of herself working on finding the right versions to include on the album and then shared a track list of what was going on it.
If you weren’t able to go on Grande’s most recent tour you can experience the event or relive it if you’re like me and attended a show. For me this is like a best of album that has all my favorite songs, except “The Light Is Coming.” I still haven’t gotten around to ever liking that song. I love when Ariana sings live. She always switches up her vocals so it’s like listening to the song for the first time, every time. My favs are “God is a Woman” and “everytime.” The transition between “sweetener” and “successful” is also outstanding and listening to old songs like “Only 1” and “Right There,” which I never heard live, is also a nice addition to the album.
“k bye for now (swt live)” is now available for digital download and on streaming services. Did you take a listen to the album yet? Do you plan to? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
