Netflix is planning on going into the new decade with a bang and that means adding new original shows to their roster of greats. One of which is an upcoming scripted series that will showcase the life, rising career, and possibly the untimely death of Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla on Selena: The Series.
Christian Serratos will take on the role of the beloved singer and appears to be using her own vocals in the first teaser released by Netflix. Many know Serratos from The Walking Dead, but I know her from her roles in the “Twilight” series and a brief appearance in American Horror Story. After this maybe Selena could be the role Serratos is most known for.
In the teaser Christian is seen rehearing lines, putting on red lipstick, and walking into a sound stage dressed in a replicated sparkle, purple jumpsuit that Selena wore to perform at the Astrodome in Houston in 1995; all with “Como La Flor”serving as background music.
Fans of Selena are feeling split down the middle on how they feel about the series. While some feel nobody can touch Jennifer Lopez’s portrayal of the late singer from the 1997 film named “Selena,” others feel they will watch anything that honors the bittersweet story of the Mexican-American entertainer and want to keep her memory alive by any means necessary. I may be on the former side and have JLo in my mind forever as the best Selena performer, but I may give this series a try after a full trailer gets released. The series is expected sometime in 2020.
