A remake of a remake. The updated “The Grudge” coming in early 2020 is bringing a new vibe to the film franchise while maintaining the original spooky vibe.

The first trailer for the film dropped on Monday just in time for a Halloween treat. Produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Nicolas Pesce, “The Grudge” is based on the 2002 written & directed Takashi Shimizu film “Ju-On: The Grudge.” The premise remains the same; a creepy house with a dark past wrecks havoc on anyone who comes in contact with it.

In the 2004 “The Grudge” starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, an American nurse encountered a cursed home in Toyko. By looking at the trailer for 2020 version it doesn’t appear to take place overseas, but it would be cool if somehow the two stories intertwine. That’s the only way I would be interested in the new version. Other than that the updated film looks like your typical ghost horror film. But knowing the horror lover that I am I probably will go see this movie because I saw the other films in the franchise.

Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye and Jacki Weaver star in the movie.

“The Grudge” comes to theaters January 3, 2020. Watch the trailer for the new version of the film in the clip below. Are you a fan of “The Grudge” franchise? Will you be checking out this film? Share your thoughts in the comments.
