At the start of Game of Thrones season 8 I had every intention of doing recap videos for my YouTube channel to dissect the show, but, truth be told, I’m a writer and it’s way easier for me to get my thoughts out by writing them down, so let’s get into episode 4 of season 8 because I still have somethings to get off my chest that I didn’t already say on social media (@Glambergirlblog BTW)
!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
So the new episode got the lowest Rotten Tomatoes rating of the season thus far. People really weren’t feeling it. From the lack of action, the drawn out victory party, the “Starbucks” cup in the shot, and the beheading of the sweet Missandei of Naath. While I didn’t hate it, I wasn’t as excited as I was the previous episodes. There’s still two more hour plus episodes left before the series wraps on May 19th *tear* and the major question of who will sit on the iron throne is still in play.
I watched the new episode a few times at this point, which I always do each week, and have some additional commentary looking with fresh eyes. Here are my key takeaways from episode 4 (“The Last of the Starks”) of season 8 of GOT.
***WHY does Tyrion insist of giving Cersei the benefit of the doubt. I’m starting to think he’s really team Lannister. This happened when he wanted to talk to her after the meeting in S7E7 and again in S8E4 wanting to reason with her before Dany and her crew attack King’s Landing. Who is he really advising at this point?
***I feel for Dany. She worked her butt off for 7 seasons only for her beloved nephew-lover to have the real claim to the iron throne she wanted since season 1. Two of her sons were murdered by her enemies. Her best friend/sister was murdered by her enemies. She barely has an army or ships and quickly has become what looks like the losing side. I was feeling her turning into the Mad Queen just like her dad and with everything that recently happened to her…Dracarys sis Dracarys!
***Now to Gendrya (Arya Stark and Gendry’s ship name FYI). I love them! I think they have such an organic relationship from travel companions, to friends, to angst potential couple, to questionable lovers. I know Arya never had any intention in life to be anybody’s lady. She doesn’t want to wear fancy dresses and sit in some castle raising children, but did she have to turn down my boy like that. He looked saltier than Lays chips. Yet I still have hope for them. Their endgame can’t be Arya kills Cersei and dies while doing so with Gendry looking dumb being a lord he doesn’t know how to be. Dan and David don’t eff this up.
*** Sansa can’t keep a secret for nothing but she has such ulterior motives and hates “the dragon queen,” so she’s taking her Littefinger course lessons and being the shadiest person in the seven kingdoms. Give her the throne. Side bar: Am I the only one who would have loved to see the Stark sisters react to the news Jon Snow is a Targaryen. Deleted scene with DVD extras?
Jonathan Van Ness and Kumail Nanjiani had some additional thoughts and got together for the latest Gay of Thrones and when I say I LAUGHED I mean it! Get into it below.
What’s in store for our favorite people of Westeros for the rest of the show? Emilia Clarke said we should get the biggest TV we can find for the next episode, so it’s about to go down! Share all your Thrones thoughts in the comments and join me Sundays on Twitter for GOT commentary.
