Christmas came early and it seems this upcoming season of American Horror Story is breaking many traditions by first, revealing its theme so early in the year and second, a season without AHS’ beloved king Evan Peters.

Ryan Murphy shocked the internet on Wednesday, the day AHS usually airs in the fall, when he revealed a teaser for the 9th season of American Horror Story which revealed the theme at the end. A girl is seen running through the woods from an unknown assailant with Billie Eilish’s “Six Feet Under” playing throughout the video. The girl thinks she finds shelter in a cabin only to have a knife penetrate the door she leaning against, then AHS 1984 was revealed as the title.

Fans immediately began to freak out and share their high hopes for the 9th season hoping it goes full on 1980’s campy horror. While fans were rejoicing, they also were coming to grips with the fact that this will be the first season without Evan Peters since the start in 2011.

During Wondercon for promotion of “Dark Phoenix,” Peters told Extra he wouldn’t be in the new season saying, “No, I’m going to sit a season out.” Sarah Paulson, Billy Eichner, and Emma Roberts however have been reported to be cast in the 9th season.
