It’s basically Ariana Grande week over here at GGB because the release of her fourth studio album Sweetener is the topic of discussion. Not too long before the release Grande joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for a mini listening party where she played some never before heard tracks and beamed about her finacé SNL actor Pete Davidson, but to open the show Grande did something a little special.
While fans anxiously awaited Grande’s new album, the entire music world mourned the loss of music legend the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. The singer and civil rights activists died at the age of 76 on Thursday, August 16th after a battle with cancer. Earlier this week reports said Franklin was surrounded by loved ones home in Detroit as she was expected to go any day. That day was today and an out pour of love, prayers, and fond memories filled social media as the world bid farewell to another music icon.
On The Tonight Show, Ariana and The Roots gave an emotional rendition of “Natural Woman,” one of Franklin’s most notable hits, to pay tribute. The Queen will be missed but her legacy lives on. RIP Aretha Franklin.
