Pray for forgiveness and strap in for what is being deemed the darkest chapter of “The Conjuring” universe; “The Nun.”
Taissa Farmiga stars as Sister Irene who aids a troubled priest (Demian Bichir) in investigating the death of a young nun in Romania. Together they unearth an unholy secret risking their lives and souls and exposing them to the dark entity of The Nun (Bonnie Aarons). The first trailer for the film is cinematically gorgeous setting up the eerie and dark pace of the film. Audiences get to see several looks at The Nun, but doesn’t reveal any true back story of the spirit; yet. I don’t get too scared viewing horror movies, but even this trailer scared me. I’m IN!
The Nun entity is the second character from “The Conjuring” films to get a separate project exploring the roots; this character was introduced in “The Conjuring 2” and is also referred to as Valak. “The Conjuring” premiered in 2013 and starred Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. That film received a sequel in 2016 and has since released spin-off movies centering around an entity named Annabelle from the first film (“Annabelle, 2014, and “Annabelle: Creation,” 2017).
“The Nun” comes to theaters September 7, 2018.
