When someone is told they can’t do something it usually propels them to go harder for that goal than ever before. That’s how things started for veteran hair stylist and Philadelphia native Porscha Weeks, also known as “The Frontal Queen.”

As a child her cousins made fun of her because she couldn’t cornrow. Porscha took it as a challenge and started to learn. She started doing hair on relatives and got really good, so she started charging to do other people’s hair. By the time she was a freshman in high school Porscha was working in a shop braiding hair professionally and went right to beauty school after she graduated.

“It was a journey. It was an up and down change. You know how it is when you’re trying to reach a certain goal in life you know it’s never easy. It was dark for a long time,” Porscha told Glambergirlblog. Before she became StylezofPorscha there was a period of time where her undeniable gift was almost smothered. She said, “My biggest obstacle was overcoming myself because I lived a wild life and I was in the streets and I didn’t know I was standing in my own way and blocking my own blessings.”

Weeks got tired of living that dark life and being stagnant, so she took control of her career giving herself to God and becoming obedient. Once she did that things skyrocketed. “It happened so fast I couldn’t even catch my own self it happened so fast,” she beamed. Working on heads like Love and Hip Hop New York’s Bianca Bonnie, Porscha is building on her artistic craft every day.

The Frontal Queen has a shop (B.A.P.S – Beautiful, Artistic, Professional Stylist Hair Salon) located on 2121 E. Chelten Ave. in Philly and is currently on a cross city tour with fellow hair guru Cliff Vmir to teach aspiring and upcoming hair stylists how to perfect elements of creating a flawless hair unit. The sold out Frontal event in Baltimore earlier this month has Vmir and Weeks heading to Atlanta for Bronner Brothers weekend next. The tour has been a good learning experience for Porscha and taught her about balancing both her booming career on the road and managing her shop back home in Philly.

With plans to expand out of the city of Brotherly Love in the future and dreams of landing Oprah Winfrey as a client, Porscha has the ideal mindset to accomplish just that. Her bubbly personality radiates through her work and the value she puts on her work ethic is unparalleled. To aspiring stylists she offers up this. “Nothing comes easy and if it comes easy it may not last that long. You have to set yourself apart because it’s a very competitive industry. You have to know what you want. You have to be careful who you work for and who you work under.”
