Stephen Colbert hosted the 69th annual Primetime Emmy awards on Sunday, September 17th from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The night honored the best in primetime television from this year’s season of television starting at the beginning of the year.
I like to think of the Emmys as a playlist of shows I need to check out if I haven’t already. HBO’s Big Little Lies was a big winner of the night racking up several awards including: Outstanding limited series, Outstanding lead actress in a limited series, Outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or movie, and Outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or movie. Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale also took home many accolades.
Another big moment of the night were the people of color finally getting recognized in categories that they haven’t been before. Donald Glover made history as the first black director to win best directing for a comedy series. Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe won for comedy writing for Master of None making Lena Waithe the first black woman to win in the writing category. Black magic was alive and well that night.
Congrats to all the winners from the 2017 Emmys. Check out the list below and the full list HERE. Share your favorite winners or who you thought should have won in the comments.
