Young Hollywood needs to sweep its radar down on Andrea-Rachel Parker and add her on a ‘One To Watch’ list because the Brooklyn, NY native got up next.
You may have seen her face on Starz playing the beautiful, soft-spoken Destiny opposite Michael Rainey Jr.’s Tariq St. Patrick on the critically-acclaimed series Power or working on Mike Wilds’ After Hours as Ruth. Next month you can catch her on the HBO drama The Deuce starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal and soon you’ll see the starlet everywhere because Andrea-Rachel has been super busy building her brand and generating buzz around her name.
Growing up in Brooklyn she officially decided to pursue her career in the entertainment industry during her junior year in college studying medicine, majoring in Biology. With a bribe from her mom she went back to school to complete her senior year, but maintained in the arts in some capacity until she was able to continue acting more freely. Landing small roles that eventually led to bigger ones brought her to the role of a lifetime on a show she always had her eye on, Power. “I wanted to audition for so many years and I really thought like I was never going to be able to be apart of SAG, so let me just scratch the idea it’s probably not going to happen. By the time I get to where I have to be in order to audition the show will probably be done,” she said.
Luckily for us Parker booked the role as Destiny after going in for the audition. The fans of Power are so very passionate that her character is one that they once loved, but now hate for the role she played in Raina St. Patrick (Donshea Hopkins) being killed. She recalled a time when a Power fan asked for a photo, then semi jokingly added they would have to fight later for what her character did. [Listen to Andrea-Rachel Parker talk about Power below]
Along with Power be sure to check out Andrea-Rachel on The Deuce premiering September 10th on HBO. The show takes place in the 1970’s and explores the origins of the porn industry. “They do a good job of highlighting everyone’s struggles,” Parker said about the show and her character in particular, Bernice, tries to play an adult role, but in fact she’s being placed in a world she may be not mature enough for. Coming up, Andrea-Rachel is working on a pilot called For The Love Of Music about the struggles of the music industry. You can always watch her on After Hours on TIDAL and be sure to watch her on the Power season 4 finale September 3rd and The Deuce September 10th.
