The search is over!

Despite the open call bringing in thousands and Disney’s dismay of being at a lost finding the perfect title character of the live-action “Aladdin” and his fierce lady counterpart, it was announced today that the spots have been filled by relatively unknowns, which is what the studio wanted.

Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott have been revealed as our live-action Aladdin and Princess Jasmine and let me tell you, I don’t hate it. “Aladdin” is my favorite Disney movie NO QUESTION, so I’m expecting great things from this film, so the casting must be on point. Massoud, who had small roles on Open Heart and Saving Hope, is giving me Kevin Gnapoor and Rick Gonzalez vibes and I’m kind of into it.

He shared his excitement on Twitter posting, “So honored & grateful for the opportunity to help bring this magical story to life once again. Let’s get to work! #Aladdin #Disney.”

Scott most recently played the Pink Ranger in the 2017 “Power Rangers” film and doesn’t make me hate the idea of her either. Previously, Will Smith has been cast as the beloved role of the Genie, made famous by the late Robin Williams, and Guy Ritchie has been brought on to direct.

So far so good to be honest. I think I’ll be more swayed on this project when the first look of the cast in character comes out and even more when a trailer drops. I’m happy Composer Alan Menken is back on the project and I want to say now, I already tweeted it, that I want Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson to remake “A Whole New World” Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle style.

What do you think about Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud playing Princess Jasmine and Aladdin in the live action “Aladdin” film? Share your thoughts in the comments.
