“Half-Hearted” Pop Singer Finn Matthews Talks Meaning Behind Singles

Rising pop singer Finn Matthews is in the ranks of the rare breed of artists that can actually sing, write their own music, and play an instrument (guitar). The protégé of Elijah Blake, who has written for Usher and Rihanna, is combining soul and pop music to create a unique sound of his own.

Chatting with Finn, he recalled the first time he met Blake and getting his first taste of the industry. “The first contact I had in the music industry was Elijah Blake who is like a brother to me. I met him when I was nine-years-old,” he said, continuing, “My dad knew this guy who was working with Elijah and I was singing in the corner of the studio. He gave me a bunch of music to study and he kept me motivated through all this, then he helped me move out to Los Angeles last year.”

Upon moving to LA the journey of Finn’s career really took off with fans receiving his music well. “I just want people to feel something from my music and connect with it. That’s the most important thing to me,” he said.

Getting inspiration from Michael Jackson, the young artist already has two singles under his belt: “Half-Hearted” and “I Wrote A Love Song,” available on music streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, and Amazon. Finn offered up the idea behind each single.

“Half-Hearted, as the title suggests, is about someone loving half-heartedly. Why would you do anything if you’re not going to fully commit, so why would you love someone if you’re not going to give them all of you? Why would you get a coffee if you’re only going to drink half of it. It can be applied to anything,” Finn revealed about his one song.

“‘I Wrote A Love Song,’ that came out on Amazon, is about trying to work out a relationship. I’m the type of person who tries to work out things if it goes bad. It’s about reaching a conclusion to everyday relationships.”
