Is There Still Brandy and Monica Beef? Monica Tells All On ‘The Real’

The ladies of The Real are back on Monday, September 12th for the season 3 premiere of the hit daytime talk show. To kick things off, R&B singer Monica is stopping by to discuss the viral “So Gone Challenge,” beef with fellow R&B singer Brandy, and if they would ever work together again.

Co-host Loni Love asked Monica about her response to Brandy rather shading everyone freestyling a verse to Monica’s 2002 track “So Gone.” Monica was “not bothered” by it at all and told the other hosts exactly why.

“Honestly, um, the old me and the new me are two different things. And this journey of self- progression and self- love and empowerment that I’m on, I can’t go backwards. I think that that was just a test from God for me and I’ve always thought that she was one of the most legendary people and, uh, has one of the most amazing voices in the runs and riffs. And I just think that it’s, some of it, has been blown out of proportion to a degree, but I can’t tell my kids to do something that I can’t do. So it was just a test for me to, uh, always just take the high road and know that in anything that happens in this life, if it’s meant for you, it’s yours. Nobody can stop it or stand in the way of it,” she said.

Monica then talked about the chances of working with her “The Boy Is Mine” counterpart again.
