HBO’s Game of Thrones is ending after its 8th season and it’s not OK.
Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president, has confirmed that the GOT showrunner’s David Benioff and Dan Weiss are ending the beloved series with season 8. “Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys revealed at the TCA’s (Television Critics Association) press stop on Saturday at Beverly Hills.
He added, “Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”
Season 6 ended in June with much audience satisfaction. The next season will not premiere until summer 2017 and will have seven episodes. The final season is rumored to have six, but let’s hope that’s not true. The real tragedy here is that means no more Funny or Die “Gay Of Thrones” and that makes me very sad.
