I watch a lot of television. That’s kind of what I have to do in my choice of profession to stay up to date on all the pop culture news and references that come about on a daily basis. To be honest there’s so much out there it’s hard to decipher which TV programs are the ones to tune into, but there’s one upcoming series that I have my eye on: The Girlfriend Experience on Starz.
From FKA twigs’ song “Two Weeks” subtly playing in the background of all the trailers and teasers to the slick way it was shot, GFE seems like a show I would be into, or at least give it a one episode try.
The series, based on Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film “The Girlfriend Experience,” was shot like an independent film and stars Riley Keough (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Runaways”) as second year law student Christine Reade. She receives an internship at the prestigious law firm of Kirkland & Allen, but soon loses focus on all the things she worked on to pursue a side career in the world of “transactional relationships.” We all know what that means. Basically a sugar baby. Soon Christine becomes engulfed way too deep into this secret life she really enjoys and her actual reality.
The 13 episode series written and directed by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz with Steven Soderbergh and Philip Fleishman as Executive Producers along wih Kerrigan and Seimetz. The show premieres Sunday, April 10 on Starz.
