Just when you thought Kanye West and Taylor Swift made up and became buddy, buddy, music has once again put the two against one another.
Before I get into Swift’s remarks at the Grammys let’s just do a quick background on the recent drama. On a track called “Famous” from Kanye West’s new album The Life of Pablo, he references Taylor Swift by rapping, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. I made that bitch famous.” Naturally, the line didn’t go over so well with people calling out Ye over the lyrics and calling Taylor a bitch. Kanye claims he got Taylor’s blessing to use the line in the song, while her team denies the conversation ever happened. During last night’s Grammy awards Taylor subtly, although we know what she was talking about, addressed the situation.
As Swift took the stage to accept her award for ‘Album of the Year’ she took the opportunity to point out two major things. She’s the only woman to ever win two Grammys for ‘Album of the Year’ and that your success isn’t based on other people. In her speech she said, “I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.” Kanye West shots fired! Ye has yet to respond via Twitter, but we’re all waiting.
