Bringing together a mix of beautiful vocals rooted in the folk music genre, combined with the catchy hooks of pop, and add that to the sultry presence of the gorgeous redhead, and you get the talented Kady Z. Kady Z is a singer songwriter creating her own genre of music she lovingly calls “Gunslinger Pop” and preparing to take the new year by storm.
Kady Z is far from new to the music scene and she actually started in the industry at a very young age performing with her mother on stage as a child. Upon linking up with a good friend who was a music manager, she decided it was time to take her music career seriously and she hasn’t stopped since. In 2012 she released her first album One Million Pieces and over time Kady Z’s talents landed her a slot as one of iHeartRadio top artists of the month and sent her first single “Beautiful Disaster” off her Ordinary Girl album to #53 on the Radio Top 100 back in 2013. In 2014 an acoustic version of Ordinary Girl was released (Ordinary Girl (Undone)).
Over the years Kady Z has been touring America, releasing more singles, and growing her brand and fan base of 3oK plus on social media. It’s clear to see Kady Z is a talent that should be on your radar. I had the esteemed pleasure of chatting with Kady Z about everything from her working relationship with her longtime friend and Grammy Award-winning producer Tonedef, what fans can expect from new music, and more.
Finding the right person to bring out her best sound was easy for Kady Z. She was introduced to Tonedef, who has worked with the likes of Green Day, Santana, and Chris Isaak, and the magic has been happening for six years. “We’re definitely partners,” Kady Z said about working with Tonedef, adding, “It’s that person that shows you can do what you’ve always wanted to do. We were that for each other.”Being able to bounce off ideas for music with Tonedef helped Kady Z create beautiful music in the past and shaped her updated sound today in which she refers to as “Gunslinger Pop.”
“It’s kind of like how The White Stripes sounded, kind of different, but their songs were pop songs,” she told GGB. Kady Z seeks inspiration from Patsy Cline and said her new music is “catchy and hooky” like a pop song, but not as polished and produced. It’s “a pop song covered in mud with a lasso and ready to get on its horse and drive off in the sunset.” Side note: Kady Z has some of the best analogies around and dropped gems all throughout our chat i.e referring to her songs are babies that need to get nursed.
Nurturing her new music is something Kady Z is very proud of and excited for people to hear. The songs are inspired by heartbreak and getting screwed over, but through the music Kady Z was able to move forward from those situations. Moving forward is something Kady Z is very good at doing and offers some advice for those trying to excel in their careers. “The most important thing is if this is your life, your passion, what you do, don’t stop. Don’t let one person who may or may not know what they’re talking about ruin your day, and that’s hard. It’s easier to say than to do, but you’re not going to get where you want to get by quitting,” she shared, further stressing to take any feedback you may get with a grain of salt.
In 2016, expect more music and more music videos because “The Kady Z machine” is coming full force so get ready.
