Nicki Minaj Talks Relationship With Meek Mill, Music, And The Advice She Got From A Famous Couple In ‘Billboard’

Nicki Minaj covers the latest issue of Billboard magazine and talks openly about her feelings on the upcoming presidential elections, her relationship with rapper Meek Mill, her upcoming ABC Family sitcom, music, and much more.

2015 has been quick the year for Nicki Minaj filled with a national and international tour, a mini beef with Miley Cyrus during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, her relationship with Philadelphia native Meek Mill blossoming, and countless endorsements that grew her already household name bigger. Inside the Billboard issue Minaj started off talking about validation from her fans with her music and then her untitled ABC Family project based on her life growing up in New York.

“I am maybe too involved. Two days ago I was in casting. I’m going back tomorrow. I found one girl who I’m obsessed with who might play me, and someone who could rival her. So I’ve been coaching them both. I do a beat, let them rap. I do little dances with them. It has been magical. I didn’t even know I had it in me, but I love children so much.”

Minaj mentioned she will be the narrator of the show, think Everybody Hates Chris, and said the series will not be a “clichéd black show.” After speaking on today’s hottest televisions shows, the 33-year spoke on politics, specifically Hillary Clinton. “I support her as a woman. Am I convinced that she should be the next president? I still want to be open-minded about everyone. Obviously, I identify with her struggles as a woman. I identify with the fact that when she’s in that room and there are nothing but men there — there’s sometimes something in her that must feel intimidated,” Minaj stated adding, “But I think that she uses that and turns it into a strength. Because that’s what I’ve always done. And so I love her for sticking it out. She has gone through horrifying things, even within her marriage. She has been brave and weathered the storm. And continued being a boss. That’s something that every woman should feel inspired by, no matter if you’re voting for her or not,” she said.

Recently, Nicki Minaj celebrated her birthday and got a special present from her BF, a ring with diamonds, not to be confused as a diamond engagement ring. She was rocking one during her Billboard interview so the engagement question came up. “He and I are not engaged. But he said he would like to give me three rings before we get married. My birthday’s coming up, and he better get the new one, because he got [the first one] for my last birthday. So let’s see what happens,” she said.

Switching gears a bit, Minaj mentioned the relationship advice she got from a famed and beloved couple. None other than Mr. and Mrs. Carter – Jay Z and Beyoncé. “Yeah, we speak about it. We actually spoke with Jay Z and Beyoncé about it, too. After our show at [Brooklyn’s] Barclays Center [in October], we had dinner together. They were so giving with advice. I love them so much. It was just a beautiful conversation to have with people we love and we look up to as a couple. They’re so strong.”

The Pinkprint rapper didn’t want to share the exact advice she got but she did mention the couple were more understanding of each other after their convo with The Carters and that they “are really, really enjoying each other’s company.” Minaj also teases dropping a mixtape.
